Clare
Clare has been a nanny since 2005 and has been working with Body Beyond Baby since Feburary 2011. We quickly realised what an asset she was and gave her the responsibility of 'head nanny'. Clare is at every BBB session so our babies and children know her well and are always happy to see her. Here Clare tells us a little more about herself and what she loves about her nannying roles.
What is the age of the youngest children you work with?
At BBB we sometimes have tiny babies as young as 7 weeks old and in my more long term nannying positions the yongest baby I cared for was just two months old.
What does your position with BBB involve?
We are caring for a number of children at one time so making sure I get to know each child as well as possible is important. The more I know about what they like, dislike and respond well to the more likely mum is to have a whole hour of exercise to herself. We read, sing and play with them making sure they are safe and happy while mum is away. I also have the responsibility of guiding our other nannies in terms of what the children like and need where necessary.
What advice would you give to a new mum coming to BBB?
It can be hard to leave your child for the first time especially if they are not used to being left with other people and they have a cry as you are about to go. I know it's hard but it's often easier in the long run if you say a loving but quick goodbye. Over time they will learn that you will always come back for them and if you make sure you have filled out your child info sheet and the signing in board we will always know your wishes and will most definately call you if they are very distressed for any reason.
Tell us a little more about your past nannying experience
As well as looking after younger babies I also looked after a 5 year old girl - this involved collecting her from school, cooking her a healthy dinner and helping with her school work. During holidays I spent time planning fun activities like taking her to the museum, doing arts and crafts at home, we also liked to do lots of reading together.
